Dow Bucks County Federal Credit Union History

The Dow Bucks County Federal Credit Union began in May of 1949 as the Rohm & Haas Bristol Federal Credit Union. The field of membership at the time was limited to employees of the Rohm and Haas Company in Bristol, Pennsylvania. The Credit Union's charter was amended in 1968 to expand the field of membership to employees of the Rohm and Haas Company working in Bristol Township which effectively included the newly constructed Croydon Plant and Engineering Division building. It was at this point the site's complement reached its peak, exceeding 3,000 employees. Similar changes to the charter were later made to include employees of Arkema (now Trinseo), Rhodia, and family members. These changes enabled the Credit Union to thrive despite decreases in the site complement during the 1990's and 2000's.

The Rohm and Haas Company was acquired by Dow Chemical in April of 2009. The Credit Union continued for a time as the Rohm & Haas Bristol Federal Credit Union, but it became apparent that a name change was needed. The National Credit Union Administration approved a name change in February 2014 to the Dow Bucks County Federal Credit Union, chosen in part to avoid confusion with the credit union headquartered at the former Rohm and Haas Company "Home Office" which was called the Dow Northeast Federal Credit Union.

The Dow Bucks County Federal Credit Union continues to operate today as the only remaining credit union originally affiliated with the Rohm and Haas Company in the Philadelphia region.
